Before & After School Program

August 7th, 2020 Update:

CCSD Families: To update on the status of opening latchkey at Chillicothe Primary School and Chillicothe Intermediate School, we're disappointed to inform you that we won't be able to open the program on August 10th, 2020 (the first day of school). Unfortunately, the YMCA is at the mercy of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services to license and certify a classroom or space for latchkey services. We are in constant contact with them about the status of licensing this program, but as of yet, we are unable to receive your children for care. We've worked closely with the administration of the school district and have a strong partnership with them, but we can't move faster than we have so far in this COVID-challenged world. We did seek alternative options including busing children from CPS and CIS to the YMCA for care, but there are no buses available due to distancing requirements on buses. While we do not have an official date of opening, we are optimistic that we will receive approval in the coming week and be able to begin care within 10-14 days. We recognize the impact this has on you and your family - and if we could do anything more to meet your need, we hope you understand that we would. Please check back here regularly for updates.

Respectfully,

The Y

The Y's History as a Leading Child Care Provider

The YMCA has provided Before & After School Child Care to Chillicothe and Ross County for decades, dating back to the 1970’s. Our programs provide youth with a safe place to go before and after the bell, during summers and on holiday breaks. More importantly, our programs help kids realize who they are and what they can achieve. The balanced program fosters health and wellness, supports academic achievement, and instills positive social-emotional skills through 10 key areas.

As the largest provider of Before & After School programs in Ohio and across the United States, YMCA’s bring a history of loyalty, trust and satisfaction to partner school districts. Currently, we partner with on-site programs at Huntington Elementary and Southeastern Elementary. We also offer the after-school program at the YMCA for students from Unioto, Chillicothe and Bishop Flaget.

Through our collaboration with the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, many students qualify for subsidized or free child care at the YMCA and at all YMCA program sites. In addition, we provide year-round services with our before & after school child care, school days out (e.g.,. holidays, snow days) and summer day camp programs.

Starting in the 2020-2021 School Year, the Y will bring the YMCA Before & After School program model to the Chillicothe Elementary and Chillicothe Intermediate schools. We would bring our Well-Trained staff, who are compliant with all state BCI/FBI requirements and receive a wide range of trainings and certifications. Also, we would maintain a Qualified program through the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services that would be Star-Rated on the Step Up to Quality rating scale.
